LO5 Task 5: KTA 16: Learning how to use Photoshop
Here I used the Magnetic Lasso tool which helped me cut out part of the image and past it onto another page. I set the feather to 8px so that the edges of the photo became smooth.
Here I used the Lasso tool so I was able to cut around the picture so that it was no longer square. I then copy an pasted the cut out onto my final A5 Flyer practice.
This is my Final A5 Flyer Draft where I used lots of different techniques from photoshop to change the effects of the photo. I changed the photos to black and white by going Image > ajustments > black and white > ok.
I also changed the opacity by selecting the layer and then decreasing the opacity which was just above.
I used the gradient fill to make the human league text decend from grey to back, and also changed the leading and kerning of the text by selecting the layer > character > then changed the width of each different part of the text.
By learning the basics of photoshop I have managed to crop, clip and adjust photos, add effects to photos and heavly edit text so that the gradient, leading, kerning and shadows will appere on my text.

LO4 Task 4: KTA 14: Call Sheet
Health and Safety
- When taking expensive equipment out of college there is a possible risk it could get stolen from you so I needed to be careful not to show it off to reduce the risk of it being stolen.
- I Had to check the camera had insurance on it so that if anything happened we could get a back up camera.
- I made sure to wear the camera strap around my neck so that if I by accident dropped the camera it wouldn't fall to the ground as the straps would stop it from falling.
- When taking the photos I will have to stand slightly in the road to get a better shot of the whole wall so I need to make sure that there are no cars coming and keep look out. I should also listen to hear if any cars are coming and be stood in the road for as little time as possible.

LO4 Task 4: KTA 13: Treatment
TREATMENT: STEEL
CITY FEST; LOGO, TICKET, BILLBOARD, MAGAZINE ADVERT, A5 FLYER.
CAITLIN BAKER
Your company has been asked to create a portfolio
of marketing for a new countywide music festival called Steel City Fest. The
festival is going to be a three-day event from 20-22nd December 2013 across
multiple music venues in South Yorkshire but mainly in Sheffield. There are 5
mine 'headline' acts playing but over 120 in total. The music festival aims to
showcase the best local acts and musicians across South Yorkshire. Tickets for
the event cost £8 for a day ticket
and £21 for a full weekend pass.
I AM REQUIRED TO MAKE:
-A Logo
-A magazine advertisement
-The ticket design
-The official A5 flyer for the event
-A billboard poster.
The genre for my festival is Indie Rock targeting
young male and females. My key demographics are male 57%, female 43%, median
age 28, student 87%, ABC1 37%, C2DE 63%, and Attenders 78,000.
A typical Attendant to my festival would be…
Kendall is my name yet most people call me Kenny.
Yes I'm a girl, a 19-year-old student studying Music production at Sheffield University.
I has been a fan of rock music since I was 15 and I'm totally obsessed with
listening to the Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and Queen and I literally can't
wait to go to the Arctic Monkeys arena tour in November 2013. I nearly always
have a concert ticket in my purse for the next upcoming concert/gig in
Sheffield. I normally stick to music events in Sheffield as I prefer the crowd,
its like we all share the same passion from music here and I feel like I fit it
when music is showcased here.
I work at
Topshop Part-time which is so handy as I get paid well at the end of each month
but also get to afford all the beautiful clothes in there, most of my shifts
are actually spend adding things to my shopping bag to buy when I finish.
At the
moment I'm actually really excited to announce that my four friends and I are
doing our first live gig at the Lead mill. We have all been part of the same
band now for about 3 years but I have played the guitar since I was 13, my pic
collection is quite large.
I love going
to Sheffield 02 academy music events with my next one being Tom Odell on 30th
October which I am so excited for.
I have also done some work for 'Toast' magazine;
writing band reviews, crediting songs, and I even got to go to Ibiza Rocks this
year as part of a project I was doing with the magazine which was such a
blessing to attend.
As open minded as I am I love going to the
'Sheffield' small gigs, which take place at the likes of the Leadmill and local
pubs and bars. I saw 'Dead Sons' in the summer and recently saw Low Duo, both
Sheffield born and bread bands that I really fell in love with.
Music and fashion photography is also an area I am
very interested in and hopefully one day when playing the guitar I will be able
to have my own photography company along with a fashion line, our band going on
world tours and maybe I will have met Kings of Leon by then. Just maybe.

Travel
The only place I had to travel was to Arundel street and Sidney street to be able to take some pictures for the background of my graphics. As these streets are just around the corner from college this travel was free as I was able to walk on foot their and make.
Models
I used my models for shooting during my graphics design process so this was again another part of my project that was free. The only person I needed was Sophie who came out with me to take the pictures and she did it free of cost as it also benefited her.

Total cost & overall budget = £2,145.73
PROPS AND MODELS
I chose to use a
brick wall for my back drop on my graphics so will need to take a photo of one
from around Sheffield with an old, derelict look. I will draw out the logos of
the 5 bands I am using and then photography them, and out them onto the Mac to
edit in Photoshop and place on my graphics.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
CONSIDERATIONS.
When taking my
photos I will go with at least one other person to ensure I wont be on my own.
I will go in the daytime to capture the best light possible.
I will keep the
canon camera in a camera bag to prevent it from breaking or me dropping it, I
will also make sure the lens cap is kept on the camera when its not in use to stop 'the lens from being scratched or getting any marks on it.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS.
When going out to
take my photo’s I will check to make sure the land I’m I using is not privately
owned and if it is and will ask permission to use the land. I will make sure to
fill out a risk assessment form from college and to sign out of college and let
them know where I am going to take the photo and who with.
ASA CONSIDERATIONS
According to the 'Advertising Standards Authority' (ASA for short) adverts of any kind should not:
-Cause offence
-Cause any harm to children
-Be misleading
-Give False Information
-Exaggerate claims they have made.
With the ASA covering broadcast media & print media and graphic design being a form of print media I had take into consideration the ASA beliefs in relation to my product and its target audience.
It is illegal to use or copy work that has been copyrighted without the creators/ licence holders permission and no when creating my own graphics I will make sure that the text I use for my logo will have been created by me.I will go out and take my own photos for the background of my graphics and sketched the logo's of the bands and imported them into Photoshop so that it wont be a direct copy. I will make sure that in no way my graphics cause offence by not including any harmful images or disturbing words and they will all give positive and true information and follow the ASA restrictions.

LO3 Task 3: KTA 12: Analysis of Audience Feedback and Tutor Witness Statement
100% of people who took my questionaire voted that my draft ideas created a cohesive brand across the 4 designs that I had drawn out. By using this infomation I came to the conclusion that I don't need to change my draft ideas when creating the final version as the people who watched my presentation liked them.
28.57% of people chose the black and white designs of my graphics and the rest chose the red brick designs. After talking to the visitor about my graphics I chose to do the red brick design but using a white washed wall for the back ground as this is what we decided would be best. After reading my responces I was quite pleased with the feedback at pretty much everyone who watched my presentation decided that I had put a suitable amount of infomation on my Magazine Advert and A5 Flyer so when making my final pieces I will keep the same infomation.
Most of the responces I got said that it would be good to use the sans serif font just like I had planned out in my draft. 1 responce however said that it would be better to use a serif font and this was interesting to see as I woulnt have thought to do this my self, i will take this into consideration.
All the responces I got back for this question were positive which I am glad about. I believe that if my peers are interested in my graphics then other members of the public would also be.
After reading this feed back I have decide d to have less colour in the background with patches of colour in the text and on the logos of the bands. I think this will bring the designs to life and becoming eye catching to a larger range of people

LO2 Task 2: KTA 9: What Makes a Cohesive Brand: V Festival
V Festival has a wide age range for its target audience so when creating its graphics it has to be careful they are suitable for everyone. The red is a popular colour and everyone can relate to it weather it being love for music or the danger of festival antics. The posters have different cartoon pictures of lots of different images such as guitars, backpacks and wellies which shows there is something there for everyone.
The Logo for V Fest has become very recognisable across the UK. Each year the background of the logo will change but still being bright and colourful it will always be recognised. The large 'V' representing Virgin Media is always the dame making a strong brand with the text always being in red to connote high spirits and love of music.
The posters and tickets are also brightly coloured connecting the logo, posters and tickets all together and making them recognisable as a whole. V Fest use horizontal integration meaning all their products are linked by their specific logo and famous house style creating synergy within the brand.
By looking at the V Fest brand I have realised that to make my brand succesful I need to keep with the same house style, have an eye catching logo which is distinctive & recognisable and use a suitable font to attract the target audience.
