LO2 Task 2: KTA 8: Draft of Steel City Fest Related Design Flat Plans

For Steel City Fest I have designed two different house styles for each different style of advertising. I have chosen a basic black and white theme with floral writing for the main text which I took from different images of my mood board. The Indie Rock style showed me black and white is a very popular colour scheme but also deep floral prints were used in the clothing they wore. My 2nd design was a 'Red Brick' effect which I chose when looking at Sheffield, many of the buildings are old, industrial red bricks with posters slapped on them for different music events or advertisement so I chose to re design this for my 'Steel City Fest' brand.

Tickets
The first ticket I designer is quite basic. The background of the ticket will be black with the half circles going round the edge, and the writing at the bottom white, in a sans serif font. The ticket will be a rectangle 115mm long by 42mm wide. The right edge of the ticket will have a jagged edge to fit with the theme of the rest of the ticket. The logo will be simple with the music note and lines being in white then a sans serif font in a floral print using dark orange, purple, yellow and green tones.

This ticket also follows the same theme black and white, but it also includes the 5 main headliners logos  using their logo font but the colour of the text being in white. The 'rip off' section of the ticket will have a black background with white text. The logo will still be in floral writing on the main ticket.

The back ground of this ticket will be an old red brick wall with black sans serif font for the main text. The smaller writing will also be sans serif but will be in a white font to show that it isn't the most important information. The 'rip off' ticket will have the red bricks again but rotated sideways with 'steel city fest' being in black' and the price and date being in white.

This ticket also uses the red brick house style but the logo's for the 5 main headline acts will be given a scratched, gritted short of effect. In each corner on the logo's I will add steel pins to make it look as if the logos have been pinned on the wall. The 'rip off' part of the ticket will be the red bricks again but rotated to the side and will have black writing for 'steel city fest' and the rest of the writing in white.

Bill Boards
This bill board has a black back ground with white half circles going round the edge  The Music note and lines are also in white but with the brand name being in a floral print using colours such as dark orange, yellow, purple and green tones. The band logos of the 5 headlining acts will be in the colour of their logo but with a vintage effect on them. The other writing will all be in a white sans serif font and the sponsors at the bottom will all use their own text fonts and colour.

I have used the red brick background again for this billboard so that it fits in with my ticket design. the main text will be in a black colour with a scratched sort of effect so it fits in with the old red brick wall. All the text will be a sans serif font excluding the sponsors at the bottom which will be written in their own font connected with their brand. The logos will be taken from the brand but given a gritty sort of look and have steel pins in each corner to look like they have been pinned onto the wall. The writing at the right hand side will be white to show that its less important as the black main text.

A5 Flyers
Again this A5 flyer follows the theme of black and white, with the main headline being in a floral print. The front of the flyer will have a black background with white half circles and white sans serif text. On the back on the flyer (right side) the background colour will be white with black sans serif writing. The list of venues will be centered so they travel down the middle of the flyer. The sponsors at the bottom will be written in their own branding text.

I have followed my theme of 'red brick' again for this A5 flyer. The 'steel city fest' will be in black sans serif font with a scratched look. The 5 headliners logo's will be listed down the left hand side all with a gritty, old effect to show they have been stuck on an outside wall. The rest of the text will be in a white sans serif font being centered, but slightly to the right of the flyer. The back (design on right) will have a steel back ground to connote the 'steel' city fest brand. Again the main writing will be black 'the music is here' with the smaller font being in white. The sponsors will use their own font. All the text will be centered to give the flyer a neat look.

Magazine Adverts
The magazine advert on the left follows my black and white theme where as the magazine advert on the right follows my brick wall theme.
The left advert uses a black background with the white half circles and the main text being in a floral print. The logo's will be given a gritty sort of look and placed at the top of the advert. The smaller information will be in a white sans serif font, centered targeting the younger audience. The sponsors will use their own brand front and will also be centered.

The advert of the right side follows my theme of red brick. The main writing will be in black with logo's given an old scratched effect to show they have been stuck on an outside wall. I chose the text to be on the left hand side written on a poster to imply its a basic red brick wall and had had different advertising and posters stuck onto it. The writing will all be in a black sans serif font.

LO2 Task 2: KTA 6: Customer Profile/ Imaginary Entity

Kendall is my name yet most people call me Kenny. Yes I'm a girl, a 19-year-old student studying Music production at Sheffield University.I has been a fan of rock music since I was 15 and I'm totally obsessed with listening to the Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and Queen and I literally can't wait to go to the Arctic Monkeys arena tour in November 2013. I nearly always have a concert ticket in my purse for the next upcoming concert/gig in Sheffield. I normally stick to music events in Sheffield as I prefer the crowd, its like we all share the same passion from music here and I feel like I fit it when music is showcased here.
I work at Topshop Part-time which is so handy as I get paid well at the end of each month but also get to afford all the beautiful clothes in there, most of my shifts are actually spend adding things to my shopping bag to buy when I finish.
At the moment I'm actually really excited to announce that my four friends and I are doing our first live gig at the Leadmill. We have all been part of the sam band now for about 3 years but I have played the guitar since I was 13, my pic collection is quite large.
I love going to Sheffield 02 academy music events with my next one being Tom Odell on 30th October which I am so excited for.
I have also done some work for 'Toast' magazine; writing band reviews, crediting songs, and I even got to go to Ibiza Rocks this year as part of a project I was doing with the magazine which was such a blessing to attend.
As open minded as I am I love going to the 'Sheffield' small gigs which take place at the likes of the Leadmill and local pubs and bars. I saw 'Dead Sons' in the summer and recently saw Low Duo, both Sheffield born and bread bands which I really fell in love with.
Music and fashion photography is also an area I am very interested in and hopefully one day when playing the guitar I will be able to have my own photography company along with a fashion line, our band going on world tours and maybe I will have met Kings of Leon by then. Just maybe.

LO2 Task 2: KTA 6: Moodboard

I decided to give Steel City Fest an Indie Rock genre which will showcasing 5 major local bands from around South Yorkshire which will be headlining over the event and over 120 acts acts playing through out each day. Creating this mood board has helped me pin down what I would like my festival theme to be like but also see what types of things my target audience are interested in so that I can incorporate this into Steel City Fest.
The 5 main headline artists are:
Arctic Monkeys
Dead Sons
Kaiser Chiefs
Reverend and the Makers
Milburn

LO2 Task 2: KTA 6: Steel City Festival Brief and Target Audience

Your company has been asked to create a portfolio of marketing for a new countywide music festival called Steel City Fest. The festival is going to be a three-day event from 20-22nd December 2013 across multiple music venues in South Yorkshire but mainly in Sheffield. There are 5 mine 'headline' acts playing but over 120 in total. The music festival aims to showcase the best local acts and musicians across South Yorkshire. Tickets for the event cost £8 for a day ticket and £21 for a full weekend pass.

I am required to make:
-A Logo
-A magazine advertisement
-The ticket design
-The official A5 flyer for the event
-A billboard poster.

To help decide on my target audience I will use these audience demographics:
Age
Gender
Social grade
Ethnicity
Sexuality
Hobbies
Interest

Theory which may help me
1. John Hartley (1987) suggested that media producers create 'invisible fictions' of their target audience.
2. Len Ang (1991) similarly argued that all media producers create 'imaginary entitles' of their target audiences before creating a media product.
